ABSTRACT
It is reported that the influence of the strain rate on the bond properties between fibers and matrix is large in the
previous research and the bond properties of fibers and matrix have a greater influence on tensile strength and
toughness than the compressive strength of fiber reinforced cement composite. Therefore, in this study, a direct
tensile test was carried out for bundle type polyamide fiber and hooked steel fiber reinforced cement composite
under the conditions of static strain rate of 10-6/s and dynamic strain rate of 101/s. Moreover, tensile properties
such as tensile strength, strain capacity and toughness of fiber reinforced cement composite by strain rate are
evaluated, and the influence of the shape of bundle type polyamide fiber and hooked steel fiber on the bond and
pull-out behavior of fiber and matrix by strain rate was investigated.
In the case of the polyamide fiber, the fibers were cut off without being pulled out from the matrix regardless of
the strain rate.
On the other hand, in the case of hooked steel fiber, a fracture behavior was observed in which hooked end
portion of the fiber was linearly elongated and pulled out from the matrix at a strain rate of 1 0-6/s. However, at a
strain rate of 101/s, the mechanical bond between the fiber and the matrix increases, so that the matrix was broken
in a state in which the fiber shape was maintained.
As a results, the tensile strength of the polyamide fiber and the mechanical bond between hooked steel fiber and
matrix are considered to have a great influence on the tensile behavior of fiber reinforced cement composite.
